TGCU is a platform for collaboration and coordination of activities in the grains sub-sector. It was formed to address the challenges that afflict the Uganda grains sector which include but are not limited to:

Limited availability of quality inputs.

Poor and inconsistent volumes of quality grain.

Poor and inadequate grain storage and processing facilities.

Poor Post-Harvest management

Informal and unregulated grain trade.

Non enforcement of grain quality standards.
TGCU has grown around players and stakeholders with broad experience in the grain sub-sector in Uganda, and a wide network of contacts across the country.

Championing efforts to make Uganda the Grain basket and leading supplier for East & Central Africa’s grain needs through raising productivity, assuring food security and promoting regional trade.
Our Activities

- Create awareness on Post-Harvest management of grains.
- Circulation of grain-related information to members.
- Enabling and enhancing grain aggregation and supporting efforts towards boosting national grain storage capacity.
- Promoting the adoption and use of new technologies to increase the volume of high quality tradable grain and promoting value addition.
- Policy analysis and Advocacy: Engaging government in policy - making on matters related to the grain industry such as enforcement of minimum quality standards.

Our Achievements

- Currently membership has grown to above 70 members.
- Actively participated in the formulation of the National Grain Trade Policy together with the Ministry of Trade and other stakeholders, aimed at regulation of the subsector.
- TGCU chairs the stakeholders’ and steering committees of the maize and beans platform under the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries.
- Actively participated in the revitalization of the Uganda National Commodity Exchange.
- Instrumental in the re-organization of the WRS which will be managed on the backbone of member warehouses
- Participated in designing and implementing ACF with MFEP / GoU.
- Driving the growth of grain processing facilities away from urban to rural areas.
- Collaboration with regional organizations such as RCGC (Rwanda), FRA (South Sudan), etc.
- Collaboration with OWC for development of farmer grain aggregation centers.
- Established the Regional Grain Hub model through which to cause the change TGCU aspires for in the Ugandan Grain sub sector.
- Established Regional Grain Quality Committees around the Regional Grain Hubs that are supported under the TGCU-TradeMark East Africa partnership
