City College of Education is a private initiative established to meet the increasing challenges of our educational system. It was inspired by the social realities of unemployment to reposition Teacher Education towards national development as well as the satisfy the yearnings and aspirations of our nation for education that can lead to self-employment. City College of Education was incorporated in 2003, and commenced full operation in October 2003.
and funded by Engineer Amu Gabriel Idogbo, an extra ordinary entrepreneur, property developer, a philanthropist and God fearing (humble) achiever. His track records as a lover of education loom large and wide through his nursery, primary and secondary schools known as Abuja International Academy Group Of Schools with over four campuses. It is reputed for consistent academic excellence, hard work, and integrity, having occupied top positions in the SSCE/NECO examinations both in FCT and Nasarawa state.

- It is approved and recognized by The Federal Ministry of Education
- It is approved by the Nasarawa State Government
- It is approved and accredited by the National Commission for Colleges of Education
- It is recognized by The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board with its name on the brochure since 2005
- It is used as a center for Post Graduate Diploma in Education under the auspices of the National Teacher Institute since 2005
- It is also recognized by Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria for its programme and Post Graduate Diploma in Education
