Oil and Gas Industry: Salary of Shell, Total, Mobil, Schlumberger, Chevron and NLNG

Introduction

Without doubt, the oil and gas industry is perhaps the most lucrative industry in Nigeria to pursue a career in. Given the natural endowment of crude oil in Nigeria, specifically in the south-south region of the country, the reason for this lucrativeness is not farfetched. In addition, in an analysis carried out by MySalaryScale in 2017, the oil and gas industry was confirmed to be the most lucrative industry to work in by employees based on the salary payment.

Also, it’s important to also mention that that most of the oil and gas companies in Nigeria are multinational and are not even listed in the Nigerian Stock Exchange all-share index. To this effect, most of them tend to pay their employees in foreign currencies. Most of these firms also have a salary structure that is designed on annual basis.

However, for better interpretation and comparison sake, we have decided to present these salaries in Nigerian Naira and also monthly.

These are the salaries of various job positions of oil and gas companies in Nigeria;

Shell Petroleum Development Company of Nigeria (SPDC)

Shell is an integrated energy company that aims to meet the world’s growing demand for energy in ways that are economically, environmentally and socially responsible. It’s one of the world’s leading energy companies. Shell has a history of over 50 years in Nigeria and the largest footprint of all the international oil and gas companies operating in the country.

The salaries of some job positions in Shell Nigeria are as follows below;

Total Nigeria

Total Nigeria is a Marketing and Services subsidiary of Total; a multinational energy company operating in more than 130 countries and committed to providing sustainable products and services for its customers. For over 50 years, Total Nigeria Plc has remained the leader in the downstream sector of the Nigerian oil and gas industry with an extensive distribution network of over 500 service stations nationwide and a wide range of top quality energy products and services.

Exxon Mobil Nigeria

ExxonMobil upstream affiliates operating in Nigeria are Mobil Producing Nigeria Unlimited (MPN) and Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria Ltd. (EEPNL). Their affiliates are involved in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas, and operate several joint venture concessions and deep-water production sharing contracts which currently focus on major secondary oil recovery projects; natural gas liquids and gas monetization and significant investment in national content development.

Chevron Nigeria

Through Chevron’s principal subsidiary in Nigeria, Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL), the company operates and holds a 40 percent interest in eight concessions in the onshore and near-onshore regions of the Niger Delta under a joint-venture arrangement with the NNPC. Chevron also does business through other subsidiaries in Nigeria.

The salary structures of these companies are perhaps the only salary structures in Nigeria that could compete with the salary structures of other firms in developed nations of the world.
